I use a vast array of formative and summative assessments in my classes. For formative assessments, I often use Google Forms, GoFormative, Socrative, ClassKick, Kahoot and others. These allow me to gather information about my students' current knowledge and comfort levels with the material we will be working with. My district also uses DataLink which has skills-based assessments aligned to our focus standards that we use for both formative and summative assessments. I like using GoFormative for my summative assessments as well because it allows me to give students instant feedback on their responses. This also helps me to see areas where students missed the content or had a misunderstanding and I can address that immediately--leading to real-time adjusts and improved student outcomes. As part of my work in my internship, I did several PDs for my staff, including one on modelling for students. As part of that, I was able to use Socrative to assess my colleagues' understanding of the concepts. I also used Near Pod to guide them through some of the direct instruction and using this platform allowed me to conduct several formative checks for understanding as I went through the PD. |
I predominantly use DataLink, GoFormative and Google Forms to assess my student's learning and analyze their results to improve student learning.
GoFormative is great as both an instructional delivery platform and an assessment tool, I used it this quarter to support students as we read Black Boy. By giving my students periodic assessments over the book, I was able to see which details and concepts they missed and then re-teach to support their understanding. Our DataLink program lets me district, network, school and class-level data. This helps me to see how my students are performing compared to other students in the same course. It also breaks data down into standards--which allows me to see which students need support on which standards. Once I have that data, I can then make action plans on how to support students--like the one pictured here. This action plan was based on formative writing data and I re-taught and provided supports to students based on this information. |

Uses appropriate and effective technology tools to disseminate relevant results in a timely manner that enables students and other stakeholders to effectively monitor progress.
I use technology to communicate with staff, students and parents about student progress. The clearest example of this the way I have used Google Sheets this year to manage the over 150 Bridge projects that the English III and College Readiness Students had to complete and submit. Because this is a graduation requirement and something that takes students weeks or months to complete, it's been very important that I have accurate and real-time information when it comes to the progress students have made on these assessments. Since students miss scheduled class to have pull-out sessions with me on these projects, I also need to have accurate attendance data for their teachers so that their attendance is accurate. I have a spreadsheet where I keep track of where they are on each component, whether or not they are on track, whether or not the project has been submitted (and accepted, and my anecdotal notes from each time I have met with the student. I have a second spreadsheet where I keep track of which days students are supposed to attend as well as when they have actually attended. This is immensely helpful to both my staff and myself as we work to complete these projects. |
