As part of designing my internship, I had to create a technology vision for both my staff and my school. My vision included creating an environment where cloud computing was something that we were both able to do and did frequently. To support that vision, I worked within my department to build our capacity to use these technologies efficiently and appropriately to best leverage student learning.
As part of this process, my department went through a two-month mission and visioning process during which we evaluated our school mission and vision, identified our individual beliefs and values, and then created a shared mission and vision for our department. The resulting vision and mission was high quality because it was authentically created and served as both a statement of purpose and the driving beliefs of our department. I also think that the process was valuable because it engendered a greater sense of purpose, commitment and unity in our department that continues to endure. My internship proposal outlined several goals and objectives that I wanted to accomplish throughout my internship. Although I did not accomplish these in ways that I initially planned to, I feel that I did, indeed, ultimately accomplish them all.
One key aspect of my success in this endeavour was my ability to assess, reflect and adjust as I moved through the internship experiences. By continually considering my objectives, I was ultimately able to help assist my department and, ultimately, my school, through the process of becoming a 21st Century School and transitioning from approximately 150 computers in the entire school to a one-to-one classroom-level technology deployment. |
